Phuket – The Pearl of Andaman

Located approximately 862 kilometers south of Bangkok is Phuket, Thailand’s largest island, which is often dubbed as the pearl of the Andaman, or the pearl of the south. Its natural resources- rocky peninsular, limestone cliffs, white powdery beaches, tranquil broad bays and tropical in-land forests contribute to making it the South’s wealthiest, busiest, most visited and most popular island and province.

Nestled in the tropical zone off the west coast of the southern part of Thailand in the Andaman Sea and the Indian Ocean, the province covers an area of approximately 543 square kilometers (excluding small islets). It is estimated that Phuket Province covers an area of approximately 590 square kilometers if its 39 other small islands are included. The islands total length, from north to south, is estimated at 48.7 kilometers and approximately 21.3 kilometers wide.

Phuket borders on Phang-nga Province to the north. The other 3 sides are encircled by the Andaman Sea the place where many of the best diving sites are located. The island is connected to Phang-nga Province by Sarasin Bridge and Thep Krasattri Bridge.

Staying on the island is easy, as there are only two seasons in a year – the rainy season (May to October) and the hot season (November to April). The low season of phuket is between September and October as they are the wettest months. The best period for a visit, is from November to February, when it is possible to see the clear blue sky, feel the fresh sea breeze and marvel at the crystal clear water while lying on powdery, palm-fringed beaches. Average temperatures ranges between 23?C and 33?C.

Phuket’s topology is exceptional with 70 percent of its area covered with mountains which stretch from north to south and the remaining 30 percent being plains located in the central and eastern parts of the island. The island does not have any major rivers except for a total of 9 brooks and creeks.

Phuket is divided into 3 administrative counties namely Amphoe Muang, Amphoe Thalang and Amphoe Kathu.

Phuket has a lot more to offer its visitors other than its natural heritage sea, sand, sky, beach, forest, and world renowned diving sites. Sino-Portuguese architecture casts its spell delighting travelers to the city, while Phuket-style hospitality has never failed to impress visitors from all walks of life. In addition, accommodations ranging from world-class resorts to tropical-style bungalows have warmly catered to the different needs of travelers. For seafood lovers, there is a lot more to sample than just Phuket’s famous lobster. Altogether, these characteristics have made Phuket a truly unique destination.

Summer vacations! Summer vacations! Summer vacations!
So your home is full of these enchanting words now days. And why not with summer holidays on the cards, everyone is busy planning for holiday tour. If you are looking for a vacation abroad, which can indulge your entire family then read on.
Thailand, beyond doubt is an incredible holiday spot, with so much to offer tourists from Thai food, sun kissed beaches, golf courses to numerous sites of archaeological and cultural interest.
People coming to Thailand have a slight idea about the country and the people. But once you been there, you would be amazed to find that it’s a place of undiscovered charm. Upcoming surprises and thrills will make you trip extraordinary.

A look at Thailand:

Thai people and culture:
With a population of about 60,000,000, Thailand covers an area of 513,115 sq. km. in the heart of South East Asia
‘Thai’ means free so Thailand actually means The Land of the Free. Even though there is complete religious freedom 95% of the Thai people follow Buddhism.
One of the most amazing features of the Thai people is their respect and huge affection for their monarchy. It is very unwise and actually could lead to very serious trouble (including imprisonment) to say anything bad about the monarchy. They are treasured dearly, and you will never hear a Thai utter a bad word particularly in public.

Thai cuisine
The first thing that strikes your mind when you heard of Thailand is surely “Thai food”. It is well known for being hot and spicy and for its balance of five essential flavors in each dish or the overall meal – hot (spicy), sour, sweet, salty, and bitter (optional)
Thai food is famous for its fervent use of fresh (rather than dried) herbs and spices as well as fish sauce.

Thailand Tourism Festival 2009
The Thailand Tourism Festival (TTF) is the main attraction of the season celebrated through 3-7 June this year. It is the country’s major travel and tourism showcase happening that embraces a huge collection of activities to encourage the preservation of Thai culture, traditions and local way of life.
Fabulous stage performances and live illustration of local arts and crafts add a vibrant festive feel to the event. If you are visiting Thailand for the first time than don’t miss this event, as it’s a smart and easy way to get recent updates also to grab best offers.

The most visited destinations of Thailand are Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Krabi Samui, Chiang Mai etc but
So go and book your travel package to Thailand and explore the beauty of Thailand. Enjoy your trip.

Earlier in 2010 there lingered remains of the Red Shirts protests in the form of faltered tourism. Protests emanated riots that emerged out of the political predicament, smaller rifts that over the years resulted from the broadening class differences, turning out to the widening gap which misconstrued the government initiatives. Thus, social anxiety and chaos were the reasons that raised concern over Thai tourism this year.

In the wake of scenic views and idyllic serenity, where travelers round the globe prefer the most salubrious travel resorts, while at the same time considering what appears suitable to their pockets, the name of ‘Thailand’ is what at first strikes to their minds. However, this year the political turmoil of what the media portrayed has kept the tourists back away to visit Thailand. This would be a billion pound loss for Thai tourist agency. Albeit, Thailand has won the TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice 2010 awards for the most beautiful beaches and for encompassing the most sightseeing destination in Asia, this does not suggest that tourists throughout the globe, particularly the masses that come from Arabian Travel Market will not trust the news coverage of what has kept Thai tourism up to these days.

“A lot of foreign tourists have already cancelled their trips as they don’t feel safe to come to Thailand. The business losses are beyond our expectation now” said President of the Thai Tourist Council Hiranyakit Kongkrit. According to economic report of the Bangkok Post, Thai tourism industry has lost 66 billion baht, which is expected to rise to 120 billion baht (Chatrudee Theparat and Pitsinee Jitpleecheep, Bangkok Post).

An ill wind is wielding Thailand, for which we can expect the Tourism Industry will experience the worst loss in the history of Thailand Tourism. The question that comes out of the conflicted arena is that, will Thailand be able to get over with the situation; will it be able to build the demolished towers of trust on foreigners in the coming year?

The answer is, it can but after demonstrating a hard line before the target market. From the scratch, the Tourism authorities ought to acquire the shattered trust of the foreigners. Gaining the insight of the news coverage and then responding to it are two different, yet complicated procedures. In order to retain tourism, Thai authorities need to negotiate with the media industry. This, by far, will be the most convenient solution to tourist industry after suffering at the hands of political turmoil.

Thailand is often referred to as a golden land, not because there is precious metal buried underground but because the country gives off a certain lustre, be it the fertile rice fields of the central plains, white sandy beaches or the warm hospitality of its citizenry.

Read more on Thailand Holidays and Singapore Honeymoon and Holiday Destination

Thailand’s cool season runs from November until the end of February. With its low humidity, relatively low temperatures and clear skies, the cool season is the best time to visit, though regular days of high 20s and low 30s might leave you wondering just who came up with the term ‘cool’. It is also the peak tourist season, so expect lots of new friends at the more popular spots like the islands and major towns.

First introductions are made in Bangkok, a modern behemoth of screaming traffic, gleaming shopping centres and international sensibilities interwoven with devout Buddhism. Chiang Mai, the country’s bohemian centre, is where the unique and precise elements of Thai culture become a classroom, for cooking courses and language lessons; while climbing into the mountain ranges around Mae Hong Son you’ll find stupa-studded peaks and villages of post-Stone Age cultures. Sliding down the coastal tail are the evergreen limestone islands of Ko Tao and Kho Phi Phi Don, filled with tall palms angling over pearlescent sand. Thailand’s beaches are stunning, hedonistic and mythic among residents of northern latitudes.

People come here as miners: first perhaps for the uniquely Western concept of R&R. And while they toast themselves to a bronze hue on the sandy beaches, they find in the daily rhythm of Thailand a tranquillity that isn’t confined to vacation time. The northeast is a region better suited for homestays and teaching gigs than quick souvenir snapshots: here, you can dive deep into the Thai psyche, emerging with a tolerance for searingly spicy food and a mastery of this strange tonal language. Welcome to a life-altering experience disguised as a holiday.

Culture

Mainland Thai culture is heavily influenced by Buddhism. However, unlike the Buddhist countries of East Asia, Thailand’s Buddhists follow the Therevada school, which is arguably closer to its Indian roots and places a heavier emphasis on monasticism. Thai temples known as wats, resplendent with gold and easily identifiable with their ornate, multicolored, pointy roofs are ubiquitous and becoming an orange-robed monk for a short period, typically the three-month rainy season, is a common rite of passage for young Thai boys and men.

The tourism infrastructure is well developed in Southeast Asia and particularly Thailand, however this doesn’t mean that you have to fight the crowds to snap a picture and walk away. Thailand is a magical place where you can just as easily get off the beaten trail and find special places where you will be welcomed with a smile.

Thailand has become a huge holiday destination for Australians and Europeans as well as budget travelers looking to have some cheap fun in the islands. Bangkok offers some of the world’s best and lowest-priced dental work along with excellent shopping and the crazy buzz of a large Asian city.
